Chelsea Beat Villarreal To Lift Uefa Super Cup

Chelsea football club of England on Wednesday lifted the Uefa Super Cup for a second time after beating Villarreal 6-5 in a penalty shootout in Belfast.

Despite the fact that the Blues had the day, Spanish side Villarreal were resilient in their approach to victory but failed to clinch the title.

It was a dramatic moment as the Blues took charge of the first-half performance with substitute goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga saving captain Raul Albiol’s spot-kick, after the Spaniards took charge of the second half.

Hakim Ziyech opened the scoring midway through the opening 45 minutes but was then forced off with what looked like a worrying shoulder injury before half-time.

before Gerard Moreno equalised in the 73rd minute to force extra time, Villarreal hit the woodwork either side of the break.

Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount were superb in their performance, as they almost sealed it for the blues before penalties.

Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the attendance of 13,000 spectators was recorded in Northern Ireland where the Super Cup was played for the first time, the highest attendance at any sports event in the country.
