Bauchi: Police arrest teenager, gang members for unlawful possession of firearms, India hemp


The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sylvester Abiodun Alabi, has revealed that his operatives have arrested an 18-year-old and his gang for being in unlawful possession of firearms, dangerous weapons and dried leaves suspected to be India Hemp.

The police chief made the revelation while briefing journalists in Bauchi, adding that they were arrested despite challenges the command was facing.

According to CP Alabi, the four suspects were arrested with by police operatives in collaboration with the members of Peace and Security Committee in Bauchi.

He informed that the suspects: Alhaji Garba (21), alias Armour; Ubale Garba (23), alias Baba; Rabiu Yusuf (22), alias Gwamnatin Rizila and Abdulmalik Kabiru (18), alias Abba, were arrested in possession with of one locally made pistol, one cutlass, two daggers, one sword and a small quantity of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.

“The Command not relenting despite challenges we are facing achieved another feat in crime fighting. On 31st August 2021 at about 0500hours the Police in collaboration with the members of Peace and Security Committee Bauchi, arrested the following persons: Alhaji Garba aged 21 alias Armour, Ubale Garba aged 23 alias Baba, Rabiu Yusuf aged 22 alias Gwamnatin Rizila and Abdulmalik Kabiru aged 18yrs alias Abba, all of Kasuwan Waya Muda Lawal Market, Bauchi, in possession of
one locally made pistol, one cutlass, two daggers, one sword, a small quantity of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis,” CP Alabi informed.

He added that investigation is in progress, saying that the suspects which will be charged to court after the investigation for prosecution.

In a related development, Alabi said the police in collaboration with hunters from Gwana district of Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state arrested a 42-year-old man, one Usman Adamu, in possession of three locally fabricated guns and 10 live ammunition.

He informed that upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and mentioned his accomplices, Saidu Alhaji Garba, Kado Adamu and Ahmadu Isa, all of who were now at large, adding that the gang was into kidnapping and robbery.

“On 27th August, 2021 about 1237hrs policemen in collaboration with professional hunters of Gwana district, Alkaleri Local Government Area, while on routine stop and search operation to stem criminal activities arrested one Usman Adamu, aged 42yrs of Sabon Layi Rugga village, Gwana, along with the following prohibited firearms;
three (3) locally fabricated guns, ten (10) live ammunition.

“On interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and mentioned his accomplices who are now at large. (1) Saidu Alhaji Garba (2) Kado Adamu and (3) Ahmadu Isa, all of the same address who are into kidnapping and robbery.”

Alabi said effort was being intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects as investigation was ongoing.
